CHapel Music Scholarships and Bursaries

There are a number of scholarship and music leadership positions in the Chapel open to King’s students. To express interest in any of the student positions below, please contact the Director of Chapel Music by email.

Chapel Choir

Choral Scholarships:
Up to four student Choral Scholarships are available each year, for those who demonstrate significant talent and/or potential in a competitive audition process. Choral Scholars commit to the entire Chapel Choir schedule, including all concerts, tours and additional events.
Choral Scholars are appointed for one academic year at a time, and are awarded a termly scholarship. Scholarships may be renewed annually, according to satisfactory attendance and progress during the year.

The Chapel Choir (December 2022)

Organ Scholarships:
Up to three Organ Scholarships are available each year, for those who demonstration significant talent and/or potential in a competitive audition process. Organ Scholars sing in the Chapel Choir when not performing on the organ, and they commit to the entire Chapel Choir schedule, including all concerts, tours and additional events.
Organ Scholars are appointed for one academic year at a time, and are awarded a termly scholarship. Scholarships may be renewed annually, according to satisfactory attendance and progress during the year.

Sunday MorninG - 11am Eucharist

The Sunday Morning Eucharist is held weekly during the full academic year (September to December, January to April). The following positions are only open to registered King’s students.

Sunday Music Leader:

In consultation with the Director of Chapel Music and the Chaplain, the Sunday Music Leader selects the hymns and service music for the Sunday 11am Eucharist; acts as the music librarian for this service, providing scores of the hymns to all choir members; leads the pre-service rehearsal each week at 10am; acts as a student contact point, and recruiter for the Sunday musicians. When possible, this position is held by one of the Organ Scholars (who will also accompany the rehearsal and the following service), although it is also open to student cantors.
Music Leaders are appointed for one academic year at a time, and are awarded a termly bursary. Bursaries may be renewed in following years, as long as the holder remains a student of King’s.

Sunday Cantor(s):
One or more student cantors may be appointed to lead the singing of the small Sunday 11am choir. The cantors attend the pre-service rehearsal at 10am each week, and act as recruiters for the Sunday choir within the King’s student body.
Cantors are appointed for one academic year at a time, and are awarded a termly bursary. Bursaries may be renewed in following years, as long as the holders remain students of King’s.


Compline - Mondays at 9.30pm

Held weekly during the full academic year (September to December, January to April). The following positions are only open to registered King’s students.

Cantor(s):
One or more student cantors are appointed to lead the singing of Compline. The cantors lead rehearsals as required - particularly if there are newcomers to the Chant Schola. The cantors act as recruiters for the Chant Schola within the King’s student body.
Cantors are appointed for one academic year at a time, and are awarded a termly bursary. Bursaries may be renewed in following years, as long as the holders remain students of King’s.
